Instructor

Adam Brozowski (He/Him) has been Lindy Hopping since the age of 10. Originally from Seattle, Washington, he has spent over a decade on the international scene—teaching, competing, and performing. Adam wears many hats, an accomplished actor, choreographer and event producer with experience in both theatrical and commercial projects.
As a dancer, Adam has been a leading voice in developing queer-positive approaches to Lindy Hop, both on and off the dance floor. He has tirelessly advocated for inclusive spaces that celebrate and empower intersectional queer identities within the swing dance community. One of the things he’s most proud of recently was competing in full drag last year at Camp Hollywood as his alter ego Miss Free’da Follow.
Adam shared a close bond with his mentor, the legendary Queen of Swing, Norma Miller. Over the years, he assisted and traveled with her, helping to produce events that celebrated her remarkable legacy. In honor of Norma’s passing, Adam launched the Global Trickeration Project, and he remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that uplift both her memory and the broader legacy of Black American contributions to Lindy Hop and Jazz.
Deeply passionate about teaching, Adam focuses on creating learning environments that foster self-expression, and musicality over partner power-dynamics while honoring the Black cultural roots of these art forms. His classes are often game-based and exploratory—a refreshing contrast to the more rigid ways he was taught.
Adam is thrilled to be joining the Summer Ambi Swing Showdown this year as the featured artist! Learn more about Adam: www.AdamBrozowski.com & www.QueerSwingSeattle.com
Class Prerequisites
The workshops at SASS are (almost) all-levels, and assume that everybody is familiar with the basics of Lindy Hop in at least one role at a beginner-intermediate level, and has at least tried the other role.
We will not be spending time at SASS going over how to do fundamental moves like tuck turns and swingouts. (If you need a refresher on the basics, come to the workshop at Second Saturday Swing on June 14th where we’ll be reviewing everything you’ll need to know for SASS!)
Saturday Classes
Queering Lindy Hop (Part 1) “No Lead, No Follow”
Join Adam for the first part of his acclaimed two-part series, Queering Lindy Hop. Celebrated globally for its fresh perspective, this special 2-hour class (with a 15-minute break) invites dancers to rethink traditional roles in Lindy Hop. In this game based class expect to be dancing most of the time! You’ll explore what “leading” and “following” have been—and what they could become. Along the way, you’ll discover how the LGBTQAI+ community has helped shape a space beyond the binary of lead and follow both historically and today.
Queering Lindy Hop (Part 2): “The Music Made Me Do It!”
Part two of Adam’s signature class series, this 2-hour session (with a 15-minute break) picks up where Part 1 left off. The Music Made Me Do It! introduces a fresh approach to dancing—one that centers empowerment through music and movement, rather than traditional power dynamics. Like Part 1, this is a playful, game-based class designed to spark creativity through social dancing. Sounds fun? It absolutely is!
Solo Jazz: Improv-ography
Jazz music and dance is like a language—the more you learn to speak and listen, the more freely you can express your own creative ideas. In this class, you’ll work on classic jazz dance steps through short choreographed sequences, which we’ll then use as the foundation for improvisation games. It’s a fun, dynamic way to build both your jazz technique and your improvisational skills—all in one class.
Sunday Classes
That One Lindy Hop Class You Were Hoping For…
Moves! Moves! Moves! We all know sometimes you just want some new material to chew on even with some switch and fluid moves too in an ambidancetrous (everybody leads, everybody follows) format! That’s right, we’ll give you just what you want. But we’ll also take time to keep a sense of context and respect for the origins of Lindy Hop inside of Black American culture and how the can influence the way we show up on the dance floor. Say whaaaa!? That’s right! You can do it all!
Charleston: Kicks and Giggles
Side by Side, Hand-to-Hand and Tandem Charleston; similar to the Lindy Hop class above, we’ll balance a lot of fun new content with important aspects of how to dance Charleston within your Lindy Hop that is social, empowering to you and your partner and more than anything swings. This class will also be taught ambidancetrous and include switches and fluid Lead, Follow.
Sunday Talk: LGBTQAI+ History in Jazz, Swing & Blues
Join Adam for a powerful and eye-opening journey through the rich, often overlooked history of LGBTQAI+ influence in jazz, swing, and blues culture. This presentation shines a spotlight on the Harlem Renaissance as a vibrant era that was not only groundbreaking for Black artistry, but also deeply shaped by queer creativity and expression. Discover how LGBTQAI+ pioneers helped shape the music and dance we celebrate today—and why their stories matter more than ever.
Note: You do NOT need a workshop pass to attend this presentation! It is included in admission to the Sunday afternoon dance.
