The Summer Ambi Swing Showdown is back! In the winter. And only one day instead of a full weekend. Thus, Half-SASS’d! Mark your calendar for Saturday, January 27, 2024.
We will have a Lindy Hop workshop during the day, an evening dance with live music provided by the Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club, and of course our signature Jo & Jo competition! The entire event will be held at the Andy Arts Center in Detroit, MI.

IMPORTANT: Motor City Swing’s Code of Conduct, Safer Spaces policy, Class Rules, and COVID-19 policy will be in effect at SASS. Please review them well before the event so you are prepared.

Parking
On-site parking is available in the lot across Parkside St from the venue. If needed, overflow parking will be available in the lot on the other side of Fenkell Ave.
Do not park on Parkside St beyond the venue! Please respect the residents of the neighborhood and allow them to have a quiet, undisturbed Saturday evening.
Competition
The feature event of Half-SASSed is our signature Jo & Jo competition! This is an ambi random partner competition — during prelims, contestants will lead with two partners and follow with two others. Finalists will dance with a single partner, and it will be up to them to decide who is dancing which role and when!
Competitors will be judged on showing strong skills in both leading and following… and of course, on putting on a good performance!
Registration
Prices for the event are as follows:
- $20 for just the workshop
- $20 for just the dance
- $35 for the full event (both dance and workshop)
Volunteering
Half-SASSed depends on volunteers to help with setup, tear down, and check in. Volunteers will receive a $5 discount on the event per half-hour shift worked.
